It is amazing how little we feel comfortable spending on Apps. Probably because we can get so many for free. That’s the reason it took so long for me to spend a measly $5 to purchase this app. For the cost of lunch, you can get a swing analysis tool comparable to what the pros use.

Advantage of this app:The REALLY cool part of this app is that when you draw two connected lines on your video, the app automatically gives you the angle between the two lines.
This is great because you can directly measure your spine angle and compare it at different points in your swing to see if your spine angle is moving too much. You can measure your right elbow angle at the top of the backswing (should be 90 deg) or your left elbow (should be 10 degrees or less).
The disadvantages of the app is there is not an option for slow motion and you cannot compare your swing to the pros.
Instead this would be a great app to use in combination with one of the other apps listed above.

Swing Profile maybe the best of the bunch and is ridiculously awesome. This app won multiple awards at the PGA Merchandise show in 2012.
Features of this App:
- When recording your swing, the software automatically starts when you begin your swing
- When comparing swings side by side, the software automatically syncs two swings together, even if they are different tempos!
- Creates a Golf Digest like swing sequence
- Includes I-Pad version for bigger picture
- Includes every feature of all the other apps
- Record and Analyze 5 swings for FREE, then decide if you want to pay
The only downside of the app, is that you have to hold the camera perfectly still to record. In other words, you can not record by holding it in your hand. You need to set it on something or have a stand.
And for full disclosure, I should tell you that I have not purchased this app myself. But I just might!

I was presently surprised by this app. You can download the free version and you can have your swing analyzed for free 3 times.
Features of this app:
- Fully automated analysis…you don’t have to do anything accept record your swing!
- Automatically identifies your faults, and tells you the correct position.
Advantage of this App: It is completely automated. All you have to do is open the app, video your swing and submit. Within 30 minutes, you will receive an email letting you know that your swing analysis is ready.
You then re-open the app and next to your video is a button for ‘analysis.’ The app then loads up 25 different checkpoints in your swing that you can swipe through in which it shows you and tells you if you whether you are in the correct position or not. If you are not in the correct position, you play a quick 10 second audio that describes what you did wrong.
Thats it. You don’t have to do any of the analysis on your own.
However, when you get convenience, you give up detail. The swing analysis is not the most comprehensive of the bunch, but I do think that it is valuable.

This screenshot shows that you can get a clear picture of the club at impact using a DV camcorder and capture it with cSwing. The first image shows Murray Van Gundy using a 7 iron.
Using the drawing tools you can see how much the head and body move on the takeaway. Murray’s head hasn’t moved much from address. The second image shows the top of his backswing with a 9-iron.
You can compare two or more golfers at one time and configure the swing windows in many different ways to suit your needs. You can scroll the swings in all the open windows at once by rolling the mouse wheel. The image (left, below) illustrates the difference at top of the backswing between J.P. and Murray.
The full screen mode allows you to concentrate on the swing while providing access to the most commonly used tools. This picture (right, below) shows the position at impact for 2002 PGA Champion Rich Beem who, at 5′ 8″, is able to drive the ball 300+ yards.
